Museums in Gran Canaria are in good supply and offer a variety of themes and exhibitions. Gran Canaria is known for being home to several famous writers and artists, and their works are displayed at a number of central museums, including the Casa Museo Pérez Galdós, Museo Néstor, and the Casa Museo de Tomás Morales.

Other popular museums include the Casa Museo León y Castillo, which celebrates the island's history, and the Museo Elder, the Museum of Science and Technology.

Gran Canaria's Museum of Science and Technology is known locally as the Museo Elder and features four themed-floors with endless displays. Highlights include a cinema, hands-on exhibits, helpful guides, demonstrations, seasonal events and a gift shop selling a range of science-related souvenirs.

Casa Museo León y Castillo

Standing in the Telde area of Gran Canaria, the stylish Casa Museo León y Castillo offers a range of historic information about the island of Gran Canaria. With an extensive library, art works and period furniture, the museum remembers the life of famous local architect Fernando de León y Castillo, who was responsible for a number of notable buildings in the area.

Casa Museo Pérez Galdós

One of Gran Canaria's most famous authors, Benito Pérez Galdós is honoured here, in his former 19th-century residence. With a range of his original manuscripts on display, other attractions at the museum include an impressive portrait of Pérez Galdós, extensive historical Spanish literature and period features. The museum can be found in the Triana area of Gran Canaria.

Museo Canario

Dedicated to the rich heritage of the Canary Islands, the Museo Canario is full of important local artefacts and pre-Hispanic archaeological finds. Guided tours of the museum's exhibits are available, which provide an interesting insight into the history of the island.

Casa Museo de Tomás Morales

The Casa Museo de Tomás Morales features many original works by well-known local writer, Tomás Morales. Museum highlights include manuscripts, poems, personal belongings and a yearly poetry competition, which is well supported.
