Gran Canaria Weather, When to Go and Gran Canaria Climate Information
(Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain)
The island of Gran Canaria offers an almost perfect climate, with constant warm temperatures and sunny weather throughout the year, making Gran Canaria a popular holiday destination. Annual average temperatures range from around 17ºC / 63°F to more than 25ºC / 77°F, with hot summer weather making temperatures in Gran Canaria peak at more than 30ºC / 86°F during July, August and September.
Much of the year, Gran Canaria's climate feels somewhat spring-like, with mild, pleasant weather and a fresh feeling, with gentle sea breezes. However, Gran Canaria is known for its extreme variations in weather and while the coastal locations are sunny virtually year-round, the weather in the centre of the island, around the mountains and at higher altitudes, becomes cooler. Some snow is often visible on the mountain peaks in central Gran Canaria and many distinct micro-climates are present, particularly around the forested areas.
Greatly influenced by the sea and the Gulf Stream, Gran Canaria's weather and climate is extremely mild during the winter months, making the island a particularly appealing place to visit at this time of the year, with the sandy beaches and warm water being extremely enticing. Winter temperatures in Gran Canaria regularly exceed 20ºC / 68°F, even during November, December and January, which are the coldest months of the year.
The southern side of Gran Canaria generally features the best weather and climate, and is slightly sunnier than the northern side of the island, with less rain. Many of the most popular island resorts can be found along Gran Canaria's southern coastline, including Maspalomas.
